Participant Comments:

Great conference. Loved the site, time of year, set up, comfort, food---it was awesome. Best Southeast that I have attended. Kudos!

It was a rewarding and valuable experience.

I enjoyed it very much. I came away inspired and with more knowledge to work with. Thank you.

A lot of wonderful information. We just need to get more information out to our peers in the regular classroom teachers in the content areas, especially at the secondary level.

I have returned to teaching and put two ideas in place (decoding and powerpoints), shared another idea with regular class teachers ("relationship trees") and have one on the back burner to develop as a retirement business. This qualifies as a success for me, thanks!

The dancing was wonderful. It showed appreciation for diversity.

I really had a good time. The first sessions I attended were so good, and the last one, so they carried the rest of the conference. The down comforters made everything better, and the beautiful hotel service. I've never felt so cared for or well rested in a hotel before, for real.

It was a wonderful conference and I brought a great deal of new knowledge back to my district.

Awesome experience! I loved every minute of it and can't wait to attend again!

Conference Information:

The SETESOL 2007 Regional Conference was held at the Louisville Marriott Downtown in walking distance of a variety of delightful restaurants and entertainment opportunities, including Louisville’s Fourth Street Live (www.4thstlive.com). Over 500 educators from 10 states came together to network, collaborate, learn new strategies, and investigate new materials for educating our English Language Learners.  This year’s conference theme was “Building Bridges: Connecting the Learning Community.”

The conference featured a number of engaging keynote and session speakers, including Dr. Roberto Dansie, cultural diversity speaker, trainer, and author; John Segota, TESOL Advocacy Specialist; Helmer Duverge, ESL Family Literacy Specialist for NCFL; and Tery Medina, Associate Director of the Southeastern Equity Center.

Pre-conference Information:

Participants discovered the Project GLAD model and learned key strategies to implement right away in their K-12 classrooms!   GLAD Key Trainer Ana Filipek acquainted participants with this model and many strategies which "promote English language acquisition, academic achievement, and cross-cultural skills."  For more information, visit: www.projectglad.com.
